Preliminary enrollment figures for the few days of classes indicate that UCCS will set a new enrollment record with more than 10,500 on-campus students enrolled for the fall 2013 semester.<\/p>\n
Final enrollment figures will not be compiled until Sept. 12. While official numbers may vary slightly, a first day of classes snapshot provided by the Office of Admissions and Records showed 10,595 students enrolled, an 818 student or 8 percent increase in headcount from last year\u2019s census date total of 9,777.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank everyone on campus,\u201d Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak said. \u201cThis milestone was accomplished by the hard work of many at every level of the university over a period of many years. I am appreciative of the faculty who opened spaces in classes, the multitude of staff who participated in making fall enrollment a success, and facilities crews who made our campus look its best.\u201d<\/p>\n
The number of credit hours in which students enrolled increased at a 9 percent rate. For fall 2013, students enrolled in 124,158 credit hours, a 10,677 or 9 percent increase from last year\u2019s 113,481 credit hours.<\/p>\n
The freshman class for fall 2013 is 1,600, a 153 student or 10 percent increase from last year\u2019s record class of 1,447.<\/p>\n
While excited about the number of new students, Homer Wesley, vice chancellor, Student Success and Enrollment Management, pointed to improved retention and higher average ACT scores as additional positive indicators.<\/p>\n
70 percent of freshman students returned for their sophomore year this year, an increase from a year ago. Additionally, the average ACT earned by entering freshman was 23.2 for fall 2014. The 2013 Colorado statewide average score was 20.4.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a well-qualified freshman class,\u201d Wesley said. \u201cWe should have every expectation that they can be challenged in the classroom and be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n
