Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences on July 16.\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Faculty, staff and community members welcomed not one, but two new deans to UCCS during a reception at UCCS Downtown on August 8.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Kevin Laudner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0began his tenure\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">as dean of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the\u00a0Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences on July 16. Shortly thereafter,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Don Rabern<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0began his own tenure as dean of the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">College of Engineering and Applied Science<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Remarks by Chancellor Venkat Reddy and Provost Tom Christensen at the reception highlighted the vital role deans play as a bridge between campus and community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cHere at UCCS, academic deans are the best advocates for our academic programs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Reddy said. \u201cThey form the bridge between our campus and the business community. They are champions for research, for economic development, and for the intellectual life of our university<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Christensen added,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Deans play a special role in connecting academics to the larger world, to industry and the future<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Rabern emphasized UCCS\u2019 reputation for building strong relationships with local industry partners and noted that he is looking forward to creating new opportunities for students in the Colorado Springs community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cOne of my top priorities is to increase high impact experiences for our students<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0he said. \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">It is through our community that we can work together and best shape the direction the College of Engineering and Applied Science for our students today and our students tomorrow<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Laudner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">too\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">noted\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hat UCCS\u2019 strong community engagement\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">drew<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0him to the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cOne of the first things that attracted me to UCCS was that the college was dedicated solely to majors involving allied health care<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Laudner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0said. \u201cGood healthcare is a collaboration \u2013 a collaboration between doctors, nurses, technicians, therapists, other specialists, and of course the patient. Everyone in this collaboration must share the same vision to be effective. During my campus interview it was clear that everyone in the college and across campus shared the same vision: to build a stronger, healthier community and to train the next generation of allied healthcare providers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Laudner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0also thanked UCCS and the community for extending a warm welcome to him and his family.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">We have only been here a few weeks<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0he said, \u201cbut it already feels like home.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rabern is an accomplished research engineer with more than a decade of academic leadership experience. Laudner is a nationally-respected shoulder expert and professor of kinesiology with a history of academic leadership success.
