Mikayla Greenfield is all about efficiency. But it<\/span>\u00a0is<\/span>n\u2019t just her commitment to streamlining\u00a0<\/span>operation<\/span>s\u00a0<\/span>in Facilities Services that earned her Employee of the Quarter for April to June of 2019: it\u2019s her compassion and composure under pressure.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of responsibility put on Mikayla\u2032s shoulders is staggering, and I am humbled by the level of professionalism she exhibits daily,\u201d wrote Mark Means<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 the materials, acquisition, and distribution supervisor for Facilities Services \u2013 when he nominated Greenfield for the award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Greenfield\u2019s colleague\u00a0<\/span>Chavon<\/span>\u00a0Harrell agrees. \u201cShe is always looking for ways to not only improve processes, but to bridge gaps and encourage teamwork through living the values of UCCS<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Greenfield\u2019s role as a work management administrator has stretched to cover gaps in Facilities Services\u2019 personnel. She builds and manages the department\u2019s work order system, runs trainings and oversees accounting tasks like journal entries and purchasing cards. In the temporary absence of a supervisor, Greenfield is also processing payroll for the department.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Mikayla is the foundation of our Facilities Services operations<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Harrell wrote in her nomination.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Her job description does not cover what she gives back to UCCS<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just always trying to make sure that I\u2019m meeting deadlines<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Greenfield says, \u201cand making sure that everything is accurate and effective. I try to be very timely so that my processes don\u2019t ever hold up the department or my team<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Greenfield has a knack for speeding up those processes. She and Harrell were part of a team that won a CU Innovation and Efficiency Award in 2018 for creating a faster, paperless system to process campus-wide utility bills.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>I had been processing utility bills individually<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Greenfield says. \u201cAnd at that\u00a0<\/span>time<\/span>\u00a0we were getting 100 utility bills every month in paper, plus duplicates of every bill, because we needed copies to send out on campus to every department.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Greenfield transitioned the paper copies into a paperless environment to reduce waste. Then she and Harrell created an import spreadsheet that acted as a utilities tracker, allowing them to upload utility report data<\/span>\u00a0into the state-required software system all at once.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was taking days to enter the data in, line by line, before we put the sheet together<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Greenfield says. \u201cAnd once we got the sheet put together it took about an hour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Greenfield\u2019s colleagues highlight a smile that \u201clight[s] up the office\u201d, paired with a self-starting quality that contributes to Facilities Services\u2019 recognition as\u00a0<\/span>\u201ca department that never quits<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Means, \u201cWithout her strong leadership and her ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities, all while maintaining a calming level of composure, Facilities Services would be at a loss<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the Employee of the Quarter award, Greenfield will receive a $100 stipend, three months of a free and reserved parking spot, a $40 voucher to the UCCS Bookstore and one day of administrative leave.<\/span><\/p>\n

She will likely spend her day off up in the mountains \u2013 \u201cThat\u2019s my escape<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0she says \u2013 fishing or seeing the leaves change color with her husband. She might also top it off with an episode of\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Stranger Things<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0(she\u2019s currently on season three) or have friends over to play the card game Magic: The Gathering.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I\u2019m not at work<\/span>,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Greenfield says, \u201cI\u2019m just enjoying all the people in my life.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
