{"id":10298,"date":"2013-04-11T10:37:48","date_gmt":"2013-04-11T16:37:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=10298"},"modified":"2018-01-19T09:45:56","modified_gmt":"2018-01-19T16:45:56","slug":"small-business-development-center-to-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=10298","title":{"rendered":"Small Business Development Center to move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Small Business Development Center, currently housed at UCCS, will move April 26 to new offices and training facilities alongside the Pikes Peak Workforce Center on the first floor of El Paso County\u2019s Citizens Service Center, 1675 Garden of the Gods Road.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7062\" style=\"width: 214px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Aikta-Marcoulier.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7062\" src=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Aikta-Marcoulier-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Aikta Marcoulier\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aikta Marcoulier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The SBDC is hosted by the UCCS College of Business and located in Building 20 near the parking garage. The building will be demolished to make way for a new campus office building. As discussions continued about the move, the option of locating in nearby El Paso County offices presented itself, according to Brian Burnett, senior executive vice chancellor, Administration and Finance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am most appreciative of the work of both Dean Reddy and Executive Director Stephannie Finley in finding a win-win solution nearby in our community to meet the space needs of the SBDC as we move this needed academic office building project ahead,\u201d Burnett said.<\/p>\n<p>The SBDC operates with federal funding under the Small Business Administration, State of Colorado in the Governor\u2019s Office of Economic Development and International Trade with financial and in-kind support from UCCS, City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, in collaboration with the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, and area business and community organizations. Its mission is to help businesses grow and prosper and provides technical and advisory assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. The SBDC offers a variety of programs and services to assist with business plans, financing, marketing, accounting and regulatory compliance. The Colorado Springs SBDC assists businesses in El Paso, Teller and Park Counties and plays an important role in helping small businesses fulfill their potential to create positive economic impact including the creation and retention of jobs for local workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSBDC is all about helping businesses to grow and create jobs and the Workforce Center is all about helping workers get the skills they need to fill the jobs created by growing businesses,\u201d Charlie Whelan, CEO, Pikes Peak Workforce Center, said. \u201cWe see a great opportunity to work together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aikta Marcoulier, director, Colorado Springs SBDC, said the move will provide easier access to small business owners taking advantage of center services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFree parking for clients, continued close proximity to the resources on UCCS campus, and the opportunity to develop programs with the Pikes Peak Workforce Center tailored to businesses within El Paso, Teller, and Park Counties make this a wonderful collaboration,\u201d Marcoulier said.\u00a0 \u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more proud to showcase the collaboration between our host, UCCS College of Business, City of Colorado Springs, Small Business Administration, OEDIT and El Paso County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Venkat Reddy, dean, College of Business, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud of the successes of the SBDC and we know that expanding community partnerships and collaboration is the way to greater success.
