Wooten earns USTFCCCA DII Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week

UCCS junior student-athlete Kayla Wooten used a record-setting performance at home to earn the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week award. Wooten is the first Mountain Lion in program history to be named the USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week.

Competing in her first race of the season, Wooten set a five-kilometer course record with a time of 18:23.6 at the 11th Annual UCCS Rust Buster Invite at Monument Valley Park Sept. 1. She led all 61 competitors and helped the Mountain Lions to a team win with 34 points.

Wooten was an All-American at the 2017 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and is a three-time indoor All-American between the mile run and distance medley relay.

The Mountain Lions will return to Monument Valley Park Sept. 8 for the Colorado College 6K Invitational.
