Chancellor Memo: HLC thanks, next steps

To the Campus Community:

I cannot thank you enough for your support and participation during the Higher Learning Commission visit Monday and Tuesday of this week.

As you know, the visit was necessary to determine our 10-year accreditation and is vitally important to the entire campus. I believe the HLC team experienced excellent input from our faculty, staff, students, administrators and community members.

While we would like to experience instant results from our efforts, I have been advised that the HLC process is, by design, deliberative.

It is likely that the review team will share its findings in draft with us in the next several weeks. While we are prohibited from sharing the team’s report broadly, I will share with the campus the report’s general tone and any questions the team raises. The process allows this review to correct any errors of fact and for us to respond to questions in a thoughtful manner.

Following the initial report and questions, the HLC process has several more reviews. These steps will likely take several months to complete. I anticipate we will not learn a final outcome, and make a formal announcement, until late spring or early summer.

This process is lengthy by design and should not be cause for concern. I pledge to keep the campus informed of the progress of our HLC accreditation.

Again, thank you for your quality representation of UCCS.

Respectfully,
