HealthCircle Primary Care Clinic hires new director

A nurse practitioner with more than 16 years’ experience, will direct the UCCS HealthCircle Primary Care Clinic.

Mike Miller began as director Sept. 1 and brings experience in urgent care, neurosurgery, orthopedics and spine care to the HealthCircle clinics. Since 2012, Miller was an urgent care nurse practitioner for Colorado Springs Health Partners where he specialized in orthopedic and spine injuries. He was also involved with a clinic specializing in care of patients following motor vehicle accidents.

Miller’s appointment was announced by Nancy Smith, dean, Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

“Mike Miller brings a vast amount of health care experiences as well as a history of providing great customer service,” Smith said. “I believe he will be an excellent health care provider, supervisor and mentor.”

Before working in urgent care, Miller was an adult nurse practitioner in a neurosurgery and spinal practice, an adult nurse practitioner in the orthopedics and podiatry department at Colorado Springs Health Partners, and as an adult nurse practitioner in the spine program at Sky Ridge Medical Center, Lone Tree. He was full time charge registered nurse and certified rehabilitation registered nurse on the Rehabilitation Care Unit at Memorial Hospital and was a neonatal intensive care unit nurse for the Springs Center for Women, Colorado Springs. Before becoming a nurse, Miller was an editor and research analyst for Shepards Citations, a legal research firm.

He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the UCCS and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

Miller replaces Jeff Spicher as director. Spicher returned to the faculty of the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

In February 2014, five UCCS clinics joined to become the UCCS HealthCircle. Located in the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences, the clinics are the UCCS Aging Center, the Peak Nutrition Clinic, the Center for Active Living, a nurse-managed Primary Care Clinic and the Veterans Health and Trauma Clinic.
