Five Kanazawa University students, lead by Professor Taku Yamamoto in the university's third visit to UCCS, got the chance to experience American culture and higher education.
Associate Dean Katie Anderson arranged local school visits and education classes for the Kanazawa University students. At a welcome breakfast hosted by the College of Education, the group met with Provost Lynn Vidler, College of Education Interim Dean Joseph Wehrman, Education Abroad Program Director Telma Frumholtz, faculty members, and Japanese Club members. They also had an opportunity to speak with Vice Provost Susan Taylor.
The visitors also participated in Japanese language classes, engaging with UCCS students.
Mioko Webster, Teaching Professor of Japanese, organized the Japanese language students to share meals with the Kanazawa University students, and the Japanese Club to host a city tour and Denver weekend trip. She also initiated this exchange with Professor Yamamoto in 2019.
Although the exchange partnership with Kanazawa University is not yet official, formalization is anticipated soon. Kanazawa University has previously hosted two visits - one from the College of Education group and another from the Japanese program group - over the past two years. Recently, the Environmental Studies group also visited Kanazawa. With Kanazawa University's financial support, all three groups plan to return to Kanazawa in May and June.
