UCCS alum, assistant coach to compete for Palestine in 2024 Paris Olympics

University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country and track & field alumni Layla Almasri is set to compete for her native country of Palestine in the women’s 800m dash at the 2024 Paris Olympics this week.
 
A former standout performer for the UCCS women’s cross country and track & field programs and current assistant coach with the Mountain Lion women’s cross country team, Almasri will open her Olympic career on Friday, Aug. 2 in Round 1 of the women’s 800m at 11:45 a.m. (MT) inside Stade de France.

Qualifiers from Round 1 will advance directly to the Semi-Final Round on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 12:35 p.m. (MT), while non-qualifiers will have another chance to advance on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 3:20 a.m. (MT) in the Repechage Round. The Final Round of the women’s 800m will take place on Monday, Aug. 5 at 1:47 p.m. (MT).
