Introducing the Division of Inclusive Culture & Belonging

The UCCS Division of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) has been renamed to the Division of Inclusive Culture & Belonging. This change intentionally reflects the division’s priorities and goals and aligns with the advancement of DEI practices nationwide. Most importantly, it underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment at UCCS.

“Our new name captures our evolving focus on creating a culture where every individual feels valued and respected and experiences a genuine sense of belonging,” said Rame Hanna, Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Culture & Belonging. “While inclusive and equitable practices remain at the core of our mission, the new name more accurately represents our holistic approach to nurturing and uplifting the unique contributions of our diverse community through an intersectional lens.”

The Division of Inclusive Culture & Belonging will continue to lead initiatives that promote inclusion and help foster a culture of belonging for everyone at UCCS. This includes current and upcoming programs, initiatives, and policies designed to enhance cultural awareness, foster equitable practices, support faculty and staff development, and ensure that all voices are heard and valued.

“We are particularly excited about upcoming initiatives, including the Heritage Munch & Learn Series, the Equity Advocate Program, and new training offerings such as Engaging in Neurodiversity, Inclusive Leadership & Communication, and Creating Outcome Based Inclusive Curriculum & Programming,” Hanna continued. “These efforts are designed to enrich our campus environment significantly.”

Additionally, the division is hosting the CU Social Justice Summit: Inclusive Leadership and Belonging, which will take place on October 8, 2024 at the Ent Center for the Arts.

“Your support and engagement are crucial to the success of these initiatives,” Hanna said. “We look forward to partnering together to advance our mission and create an environment where everyone can thrive.”
