The Small Business Development Center at UCCS is offering several business training workshops free to staff, faculty, and students and some at minimal cost, every month.
Matt Barrett, director, and Shawna Markiewicz, assistant to the director, urge the campus community to take advantage of the opportunity to attend May workshops and learn more about small business practices as local business owners and professionals share their expertise.
The Basics of the Sales Cycle: How to Increase Profits
1-3 pm, May 12, presented at Ent Federal Credit Union, 7350 Campus Drive, Colorado Springs; 2nd floor. The workshop is free, compliments of Ent.
This presentation teaches how to strategically develop the most important piece of the sales cycle, the actual process taken from start to finish. Attendees will learn to unlock their organizations’ potential to increase revenue, awareness, and customer service towards increased profits. This two-hour presentation will focus on the procedural sales process from handshake to close, discussing the necessary tools to develop it.
Networking & Relationship Marketing: The Power of People
1-3 pm, May 13, presented at the SBDC. The workshop is free.
This workshop is designed to help achieve business goals more effectively and efficiently through social networking and relationship marketing. The focus will be exploring how to develop a strategic approach to attaining business goals, the basics of social networking and relationship marketing, and how to develop a plan to achieve social networking success. SBDC staff recommend this workshop for those who wants to increase sales and strategically expand their networks.
Understanding Financial Statements to Manage Your Business
9 am-noon, May 20, presented at the SBDC. The workshop is free.
This seminar is designed to make intimidating financial statements easy to understand. A local CPA will teach an advanced continuation of the basics of bookkeeping. The class will cover balance sheets, cash flow, income statements, financial projections, and budgeting. A basics of bookkeeping class is recommended as a prerequisite for those with no prior experience in bookkeeping.
Business Insurance Essentials
Noon-3 pm, May 26, presented at the SBDC. The workshop is free.
This session provides business owners with essential information regarding basic insurance coverage necessary for most small to medium sized businesses. Attendees will learn how to assess which coverage they must have, as well as eliminate coverage that is unnecessary or not cost effective. Attendees will learn to understand the types of insurance coverage they must consider for their business, to know the pitfalls of being underinsured, and to confidently know they won’t overspend on insurance while protecting the key pieces of their business.
This session will also include an interactive discussion from a panel of insurance representatives from Six & Geving.
