An experienced leader in the development of non-traditional university programs will become the director of campus-wide extended studies at UCCS.
Carley Ries, currently director/associate director of several extended studies programs in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Nevada, Reno, was selected following a regional search. Her appointment was announced by David Moon, senior associate vice chancellor, Academic Affairs.
“Carley Ries brings to UCCS a proven record of expanding the reach of a university,” Moon said. “Her experience in delivering courses, professional development programs, and working collaboratively with the campus and the community will be a tremendous benefit for UCCS.”
Since 1997, Ries has served as director/associate director for the Division of Extended Studies at UNR. Programs she directed included independent learning as well as Wintermester and Weekend and Summer Freshman Start programs. More than 17,000 students were served by the courses. Previously, she served as a program development specialist for UNR.
She is a member of several community boards in the Reno area as well as the American Association for Collegiate Independent Study. She earned a master’s degree in business and human relations from Amberton University, Garland, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UNR.
As director of campus-wide extended studies, Ries will be responsible for the coordination of extended studies programs offered by the six colleges that make up the university and developing new opportunities for the university. She begins July 1 and replaces Warren Schubert who served as interim director of campus-wide extended studies since Jan. 11. Campus-wide extended studies were previously directed by Dana Rocha who recently moved to a position in Veteran and Military Student Affairs.
