The UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art will present an exhibition in memory of its late director, Gerry Riggs, May 13.
GOCA founded the Gerry Riggs Exhibition Fund to bring one national exhibition to UCCS each year, according to Caitlin Green, co-director, GOCA.
“We thought that putting Gerry’s name on the art exhibit was the best way to remember him,” Green said.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., May 13 at GOCA1420, the event will feature remarks from Riggs’s friends and colleagues and a champagne toast in his name. Those interested in attending are asked to respond by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 11.
Riggs was a champion of art and artists and worked as an assistant professor and director of the Gallery of Contemporary Art from 1991 to 2006. During his time at UCCS, Riggs helped transform the GOCA into one of the region’s most important art spaces that is dedicated to contemporary art. Riggs died Jan. 3, 2009.
