“The Seagull” plays Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. from April 21 to May 8. There are Saturday matinee performances at 2 p.m. April 30 and May 7 and Sunday afternoon performances at 4 p.m. April 24, May 1 and 8.

Originally produced by the first season of the Moscow Art Theatre in 1898, “The Seagull” was the first play produced by the partnership of playwright Anton Chekhov and director Konstantin Stanislavkski. It is often cited as playing a vital role in launching modern theater at the turn of the last century.

It is because of its influential role that Theatreworks decided to produce the play to honor the 150th anniversary of the Russian playwright.

“After Shakespeare I count Anton Chekhov as the greatest playwright ever,” said Murray Ross, artistic director, Theatreworks.

The production is designed and directed by Ross. For reservations and further information contact Theatreworks at www.theatreworkscs.org or 255-3232.
